BIOGRAPHY

Maša Travljanin's practice is rooted in the family’s inherited memories of the Bosnian Civil War. She accepts these memories as her ancestral heritage and materialises them into personal monuments of the past. The dominant method in her process is the material overlaying of wallpaper, paint, and fabric. Her work crosses over family photographs, war photography and existing significant structures, aiming to fill the absence of historical context.

She was born and raised in Ljubljana, Slovenia, where she began her artistic education. In 2014, she studied traditional art at the Art College in Ljubljana. In 2016, she continued her study at the Art Academy London to diversify her education. Being influenced by artist Julian Wild and Lynne Abrahamson, two tutors at the academy, Maša become interested in installations. Whilst exploring the world of sculpture and installation, she found herself drawn to using diverse mediums and media.

Her work 'Passing By' was published in 2021 in the 'Artist's Manual' by author and artist Rob Pepper. In May 2022, she was honoured with an invitation by the Sedra Organization to hold a solo exhibition in Rotterdam, in memory of the victims of the civil war in BIH.
